Ham & Cheese Rolls Recipe

Call me crazy but I’ve never encountered ham and cheese rolls before. It wasn’t till a friend invited me to check out this new fusion restaurant some years ago did I discover that such a dish actually exists. I can’t really compare it to any Filipino dish that I know but it does remind me a bit of the dish cheese rolls.

I’ve been doing some research online trying to find out where this ham and cheese roll came from but my search yields no results. My guess is that this dish is a recent variant of the cheese roll dish. They are both similarly prepared with the ham and cheese rolls only having the additional protein in the dish.

Also, through this research, I came to find out that cheese rolls actually came from New Zealand and is a very popular appetizer there with the earliest record of the dish dating back to the 1930s. The more you know.

Anyway, I’m theorizing that someone must have had enough of the regular cheese rolls (even though they are quite delicious) and wanted a ham sandwich instead, but they’re surrounded by people who love cheese rolls and are adamant in having that served. Since that person is the one in charge of making the cheese rolls and can’t let go of their craving of a ham and cheese sandwich, they created a ham and cheese rolls instead. It’s a win-win situation.

This person and the people they served it to like the ham and cheese rolls so much that they decided to post it to the internet, except they didn’t properly credit themselves and the internet caught on with this recipe. Now it’s become a sleeper hit worldwide.

At least that’s how I imagined this dish came to be. No? Oh well, if you’re also craving for a ham and cheese sandwich, we have an upcoming Ham and Cheese Bread Toast recipe that’s going to be posted on this site in the near future so watch out for that.

But if you’re here for the Ham and Cheese Rolls recipe, I can understand. It is quite delicious. It’s a more savory version of the cheese roll recipe when the ham was added in.

Anyway, my friend and I got went to this fusion restaurant where they serve ham and cheese rolls for appetizers where I was quite taken aback because it was the first time I’ve ever encountered this dish. And no joke, exactly a week later, I was invited to a birthday party and they were serving ham and cheese rolls.

The next day, I was scrolling through social media online like I always do during my downtime, and wouldn’t have you know. I came across, you guessed it, a ham and cheese rolls recipe.

It was like this dish was begging to have my attention and talk about it. I liked the dish very well, and it wasn’t until another friend of mine recommended me to check a recipe of this dish online did I finally decide to try making it at home. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. This ham and cheese rolls dish cannot be ignored any longer.

And I did make my version of it at home. I’ve made cheese rolls before and it’s all a matter of just adding ham with the already established cheese roll recipe. It wasn’t until I’ve made this recipe at home did that I learned to appreciate it more.

It’s a fairly inexpensive and easy dish to make that can be served for a large crowd of people. It’s a delicious appetizer and finger food for when you have a few guests around. And you can make use of loaf bread that’s close to its expiration date for this recipe. Plus, it’s very tasty and perfect for an appetizer, all things considered.

And so, I would like to share this recipe of ham and cheese rolls recipe to you guys. If it’s your first time learning about this recipe, you’re probably not alone. But it’s a nice discovery nonetheless.

The ingredients, which we’ve listed down below, are inexpensive and can be bought from any market. Plus, the steps for making this recipe is very simple and easy to follow. We’ve also created a fun video for this fun recipe for people more inclined to visual learning. Enjoy!
