Now, it’s also known by everyone that Filipinos love the heavenly combination of sweet and spicy foods, yeah? That’s right, I’m talking about the heavenly Sweet and Spicy Squid Recipe!

Sweet and Spicy Squid Recipe
Alright! Now, now. Don’t be intimidated because all of the ingredients we’ll need for this recipe can be easily found in local markets and grocery stores. Moreover, the cooking procedure is also very simple and I’m sure you’ll be able to catch up without breaking a sweat! Well, shall we begin?
To begin, the ingredients we’ll need for this recipe are tomato paste, oyster sauce, onion, garlic, ginger, spring onions, green chili, salt, pepper, water, sugar, sesame oil, chili flakes, sesame seeds, and of course, the star of the show, squid! The chili flakes and sesame seeds are just optional ingredients. We included them to add more texture and savory flavor to the dish, so I recommend you add it too!
Now, let’s start cooking! First up, simply cut all of the ingredients accordingly such as the onion, garlic, ginger, spring onions, green chili, and of course, the squid. Make sure to thoroughly clean the squid and cut it into bite sizes so that the dish can be easily consumed.
Alright! Now that we’re all set, simply heat the pan and precook the squid. To do this, just set the squid on the surface of the pan until all the excess water comes off. Use a strainer to effectively remove all the water then set aside the pre-cooked squid. Next up, pour a sufficient amount of sesame oil into the pan then saute garlic, ginger, and onion altogether. Remember to keep the fire in low heat to avoid burning. After sauteing until all the flavors are incorporated with each other, you can now add the tomato paste, green chili, spring onion, oyster sauce, water, salt, pepper, and sugar. Mix all of the ingredients well for the best results!
Now that our sauce is finished, it’s time to finally add the main ingredient. Add the pre-cooked squid, chili flakes, and a pinch of sesame seeds. Stir everything well until the sauce fully incorporates with the squid. Cook the squid for a while until it becomes well-cooked. Make sure to not overcook the squid as it tends to become excessively chewy.

- 1 kg squid (clean and cut)
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 pc onion
- 5 cloves garlic
- 1 small thumb ginger
- 1 small bunch of spring onions
- 2-3 pcs. green chili
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- ¼ cup water(optional)
- 1 tbsp. Sugar
- 1 tbsp chili flakes (optional)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- Prepare all the ingredients and cut.
- Heat the pan and pre- cook the squid. Removed excess water from the squid using strainer.
- In the same pan add the sesame oil then saute the ginger, garlic and onion. Over low heat only.
- Add the tomato paste, green chili, spring onion, oyster sauce, water, salt, pepper, sugar.
- Then add the pre-cook squid, chili flakes and half of sesame seeds. Stir well
- Continue stirring until well cooked.
- Serve and enjoy.
