Today, Filipino Recipes Guide will teach us how to cook their Stir Fry Okra with Salted Eggs Recipe. Yup! You’ve read it right, today, we’ll be using Okra as our main ingredient.
In the Philippines, Okra is a prominent vegetable that’s being used in countless classic recipes like Bulanglang, Sinigang, and the iconic Pinakbet! I know that several Filipino parents are struggling to make their children eat Okra, so if you’re one of them, take down notes because our recipe for today will make children fall in love with Okra! Okra is known to be rich in Vitamins A and C which are important for the body’s growth, vision, and immune system. Moreover, it also contains antioxidants that reduce the risk of contracting serious illnesses including heart diseases, cancer, and diabetes.
Our secondary ingredient is another all-time favorite of Filipinos, Salted Eggs or Itlog na Pula. These are popular not only in our country but also in the whole continent of Asia. Each country has its own name for the traditional salted egg but the process of making it is relatively the same. In the Philippines, it is produced by soaking duck eggs in brine or packing them in damp, salted charcoal. Lastly, Filipinos traditionally call salted eggs “Itlog na Pula” because they are dyed red so people can distinguish them from regular duck eggs. Oh, and you also might be wondering, “Can’t salted eggs be made of chicken eggs?” Well, technically, you can, but the taste and texture would be notably different. Nevertheless, it’s still your choice!
Alright, alright, alright! Are you ready? I sure hope you are because we’ll now be making our delicious recipe for today. Ready your aprons, sharpen your knives and prepare everything you’ll need. Here comes the Stir Fry Okra with Salted Eggs Recipe!
Stir Fry Okra with Salted Eggs Recipe
Ah, don’t worry! The ingredients for this recipe are very easy to find in your local markets and groceries. Also, the cooking procedure is also simple so I’m sure you’ll be able to catch up with ease! So, shall we begin? Let’s go!
Firstly, the ingredients we’ll need are garlic, salt, pepper, oil, chili, salted egg, and of course, the star of the show, Okra! Chilis are optional but if you’re like me who’s a huge fan of spicy foods, then you should definitely include some. Oh, just a reminder, too much is always bad so take it easy, alright?
To start, simply wash the okra thoroughly to remove light debris from the vegetable. If you’re going to add chilis, make sure to wash them too! Then, you can now slice the okra into bite sizes so it’ll be easy to eat. Next, separate the egg white and egg yolk of the salted egg and chop them respectively. Lastly, don’t forget to mince the garlic.
Alright, we’re now all set for cooking! To begin, pour a little bit of oil into the frying pan and saute the garlic until it becomes light golden brown. Next, you can now add the sliced salted egg yolk and then keep on sauteing to incorporate all the flavors. Finally, add the bite-sized okras and thoroughly mix everything. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
That’s about it! Cover the pan for a while but don’t let the okra become overcooked, our goal is to make it as crunchy as possible to add texture and flavor. Finally, add the chopped salted egg white and chopped chili for garnish. And voila! You have now successfully cooked the Stir Fry Okra with Salted Eggs Recipe!
Serve the dish while it’s hot and partner it with a freshly-cooked cup of rice. Oh, and don’t forget to prepare ice-cold soft drinks to top it all off. Yum! Enjoy your meal!
