PERFECT PUTO CHEESE ala GOLDILOCKS (Soft & Fluffy)

With this negosyo recipe, you’re guaranteed to never run out of customers. Among the many kakanin recipes, also known as native rice delicacies, puto is amongst the most well-known in Filipino cuisine. Puto is a versatile Filipino steamed rice cake that is commonly eaten as an accompaniment to other savory Filipino dishes, specifically dinuguan.

But puto can also be eaten on its own, commonly as a light midmorning or midafternoon snack. Plain puto that’s made with its classic ingredients of slightly fermented rice dough that’s steamed to create a fluffy cupcake like-shape is the recipe that’s used to accompany savory dishes. The puto that is eaten as is for a light snack is much more complex in its recipe and can use a variety of different flavors.

There are loads of different puto flavors that can be bought at the market or made at home. Colored variants of the puto are used to indicate whether it’s been flavored or not. The most popular flavors used for puto is ube (purple) and pandan (green). Some puto recipes can get really creative and uses topping or fillings in the steamed rice cake.

One of the simplest and arguably one of the best flavored puto recipes is puto cheese. This puto recipe is simply made with the typical plain puto recipe if not for the strip of cheese inserted at the top.

Puto recipes like these are incredibly popular among Filipinos and bring consistent profits to bakeries that sold them and are usually the first products to sell out. This made countless bakeries in the Philippines to experiment with different flavors to use for their puto recipes but the puto cheese recipe has become a staple.

One of my favorite puto cheese product is the ones that are sold by this huge bakery chain in the Philippines, Goldilocks Bakeshop. Their puto cheese is second to none, in my opinion. And I’m sure I share this opinion with countless Filipinos out there.

You would think that something as simple as a puto cheese recipe would be a piece of cake (no pun intended) to recreate but there’s something a little bit more special with Goldilock’s version of puto cheese recipe and for such a long time, I couldn’t put my finger on it.

After a significant amount of time experimenting in the kitchen to achieve the best puto cheese recipe that can come close to what Goldilocks has to offer, I think I finally got everything down and created a puto cheese recipe that’s just as good.

So anyway onward with the recipe. For this puto cheese recipe, I found the perfect combination of ingredients to make it almost identical with Goldilock’s puto cheese products and all the ingredients are surprisingly common. Many of these ingredients are probably in your pantry right now!
